Administrative law

We represent our clients' interests before a wide variety of tribunals which make decisions on a wide reaching range of issues and which often have a significant impact on their daily lives or their business operations. For example, we have enjoyed success in:

  • Expropriation proceedings,
  • Compensation hearings,
  • Development Appeal Board applications and
  • Appearances before other quasi-judicial tribunals

as well as representing our clients' interests before the courts in appeals from the decisions of such tribunals. In some cases, we have appealed on our clients' behalf to the Court of Appeal and to the Supreme Court of Canada.

We also have valuable experience in public inquiries as several of our lawyers have appeared as inquiry counsel or on behalf of intervenors or other participants in the inquiry process.

Our lawyers have argued before these and other tribunals:

  • Land Compensation Board
  • Alberta Energy and Utilities Board
  • Municipal Government Board
  • Development Appeal Board
  • Workers' Compensation Board (NWT)
  • Workers' Compensation Board (Alberta)
  • Labour Relations Board
  • Employment Standards Board

With our extensive practice in the workers' compensation issues, we have been involved in numerous applications to interpret the "immunity from suit" provisions of the legislation of the Northwest Territories and, of course, Alberta.

We also advise small business owners and directors of their obligations under the workers' compensation statutes and occupational health and safety legislation.
